Teachers For Ukraine (T4U) program stands as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration, spearheaded by Classrooms Without Walls (CWW) and Smart Osvita NGO in Kyiv, Ukraine. On March 12th, 2022, CWW’s founder, David Falconer, ignited the inaugural session of T4U from his post as Principal in Qikiqtarjuak, Nunavut, nestled beyond the Arctic circle. Against the backdrop of the majestic Canadian Arctic, over 300 Ukrainian children eagerly absorbed the rich tapestry of knowledge woven by Falconer.

Since that landmark moment, T4U has blossomed into a global movement, enriching the lives of Ukrainian children across borders and barriers.

It is through this formidable alliance that T4U has flourished, harnessing the collective expertise and resources of both organizations to provide education and support to thousands of Ukrainian youths. Smart Osvita NGO’s and CWW’s focus to support children has paved the way for a brighter future, empowering Ukrainian children to thrive amidst adversity.

In light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, this program has provided Ukrainian children with more than just education; it has offered them solace in the knowledge that they are not alone during these most difficult times.

“

I was drawn to volunteer by the idea of providing quality lessons to students whose education was interrupted by war or political unrest. Being a passionate educator with years of teaching experience in Canadian schools, it was my chance to help in my area of expertise. It was an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and youth around the world.

Since I started my volunteer work in April of 2022, I have taught and presented workshops to Ukrainian children and teachers. Their curiosity to learn in unfortunate circumstances is inspiring. I always look forward to seeing curious faces and meeting kids and teachers who demonstrate perseverance and optimism. They show initiative to participate and engage in lessons despite broken microphones, sirens, and blackouts. They model strength and resilience, and I am fortunate to work with them. I am grateful that they always show up.

I continue to learn and improve my teaching practices: virtually and using trauma informed approaches while creating welcoming and engaging lessons. I am being rewarded with a clear vision for the world, enjoyment of my work, privilege to watch eager learners and confidence that I am supporting those in need.
